Drainage Tunnel from Saen Saep and Lat Phrao Canals to the Chao Phraya River

Client : IN Joint Venture Co., Ltd.

Service : Construction Supervision

TEAM GROUP provided quality control services for the construction of the drainage tunnel from Saen Saep and Lat Phrao canals to the Chao Phraya River, by means of which the BMA plans to lessen the ongoing problem of annual flooding in the eastern Bangkok area.

This drainage tunnel can rapidly discharge a large volume of flood water and so alleviate flood problems in the 150 km²  area of Bang Kapi, Wang Thonglang, Huai Khwang, Din Daeng, Phaya Thai, Saphan Sung, Lat Phrao, Bueng Kum, Khan Na Yao, Lat Krabang and Min Buri.

With a total length of 5.11 kilometers, this 5-meter diameter drainage tunnel is at present the longest in Thailand. Starting from the Rama IX swamp and running along Saen Saep Canal, Soi Sukhumvit 71, Sukhumvit Road and Phra Khanong Canal, water is rapidly drained into the Chao Phraya River by the 60 cu.m./second pumping facility installed at the end of the tunnel, which, to avoid impacts on an MRT subway tunnel and on the foundations of surrounding buildings, is at a depth of 27 meters.
