Client: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT)

The Construction of Den Chai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong Railway Project is a new double-track railway project that employs meter-gauge railways (a railway with a track gauge of 1 meter). With rights of way (ROW) of 50-60 meter width, the project’s total distance is approximately 325 kilometers. The project’s infrastructure comprises 26 railway stations, 4 railway tunnels, 40 overpasses and 102 underpasses, as well as guardrails along the project’s railway route.

The Construction of Den Chai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong Railway Project falls under the first plan of Thailand’s Transport Infrastructure Development Strategy for intercity railway network development (phase 1). The goals are to increase railway service capacity, support goods and passenger transportation, accommodate the increased number of passengers and goods being conveyed, and enhance connectivity with the transportation systems of neighboring countries. As a result, Northern Thailand will enjoy expansion and prosperity, and national economic growth will be enhanced. In addition, these developments are in accordance with the government’s national strategic plans and the policy on the development of transportation and logistics systems, which aims to encourage the use of railway systems for decreasing the road accident rate, pollution, logistics costs, and energy consumption on a long-term basis.
